Please continue to spread the word.

When I tried to explain this bad habit of wearing spandex with a bikini top to a stranger I just got told that I was jealous and that I should eat some more to have a figure like her. *sigh*

It's really not that difficult, have a good look at yourself before you leave the house. Even when it's negative attention.

To be honest, with the exception of self-respect, I have to disagree. I think that much of such dress is more so related to unrestrained spiritedness accompanied by a lack of self-consciousness. Women who excessively and/or crudely flaunt their sexuality do so due to being less restrained by either a certain fashion consciousness or respect for etiquette.

From what I have seen, these type of women tend to simply not care. They want to look "sexy" and their minds don't go beyond that. Contrary to popular belief, black women actually have high self-esteem (as studies have shown for blacks in general) and having high self-esteem tends to make a person less self-critical.

I will agree to a point that black women often dress such ways for a certain amount of attention without regard for the kind of attention it is but that is not so much due to a lack of attention as it is due to the desire for more than normal attention. The average man or woman of any race simply does not garner a second look from the opposite sex under normal circumstances.

The noted "street harassment" some black women complain about indicates that it doesn't take dressing slutty to get attention, but many women simply embrace such attention and strive to enhance it. Also, women are known to dress to impress their peers and often get the thumbs up by their peers for dressing hoochie.Constancenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4410230886978718576.post-69497012055628232082009-12-27T05:55:01.038-08:002009-12-27T05:55:01.038-08:00FP,

In fact, I've noticed a pattern that the bigger the buttocks, the often LESS appropriate the clothing. I suspect that much of this is an act of defiance where the inappropriately dressed obese BW is proclaiming "I can be 'sexy' too, darn it!" Ummm . . . not like that.

May God bless you for looking out. I've washed my hands of trying to explain to grown-a** women why what they're doing is not a good look. It's not a good look on many levels, and often reflects broken spirits.

And, to be clear (for those overweight readers who are looking to be offended), this is an across the board problem. Much of what AA women of ALL sizes are doing in terms of dress reflect broken spirits (typically broken by BM), a deep lack of self-respect, and as a result, a desperation for any little scrap of attention they can get. Even when it's negative attention.

All of this reminds me of a wise comment (in a wise essay) by another BW blogger, Blue Butterly, where she pointed out that:

"The Ahabs are mind bending, heart breaking opportunists. Ahabs can spot your low self-esteem in high heels from across the room. Ahabs can see beyond the make-up, weaves, highlights and fake skin tones. Ahabs can see the size 22 mind inside the size 2 mini. Ahabs can see all those things and will use them to their advantage."

http://swordofgoliath.blogspot.com/2009/07/jezebel-darling-who-lied-to-you.html

Peace, blessings, and solidarity.Khadijahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07732325133964607276noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4410230886978718576.post-33270677922851951062009-12-25T11:22:16.911-08:002009-12-25T11:22:16.911-08:00Please, tell them and you are right some ladies ma...Please, tell them and you are right some ladies may think the stares are looks of approval.aann4950https://www.blogger.com/profile/02301319464338276207noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4410230886978718576.post-24498615902263229122009-12-25T00:12:15.848-08:002009-12-25T00:12:15.848-08:00i feel SO much better since i got that off my ches...i feel SO much better since i got that off my chest.

i have decided that i will tell the next sistah i see with her behind out that it is out. it alarms me to no end. i am noticing also that the bigger the behind, the shorter the top and the more see through the leggings.

we are more than our behinds. before others will acknowlege this truth, WE must acknowledge this truth.

my commitment to address it offline now is born of my desire to see the response. a part of me secretly believes that i will be met with a "i know". lol! although, when the 3 inch zipper was the rage, i did let sistahs know their naked behinds were clearly visible and they thanked me for looking out. we will see.

blessings,
focusedpurposefocusedpurposehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15537118983874391619noreply@blogger.com
